IU football coach Terry Hoeppner, who underwent surgery Wednesday for a possible tumor on the right side of his brain, was recovering Wednesday night after a successful procedure, the athletics department said. \n"Coach Hoeppner came through (yesterday) morning's surgery well and is resting comfortably with his family at his side," IU Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan said in a statement. \nDr. Marshall Poor performed the surgery at Bloomington Hospital. \nThe potential tumor was picked up as part of routine scans Hoeppner has undergone since a tumor was located and removed in December. Doctors informed Hoeppner surgery would be necessary, and he decided yesterday to take a temporary leave of absence to recover from the procedure. Interim head coach Bill Lynch conducted yesterday's practice in Hoeppner's absence. Practice went on normally and the team was upbeat throughout the workout, Lynch said.\n"I thought it was a good practice," he said afterward. "We're going to run our practices and keep the same routine that Coach Hep has always had."\nPlayers went through their drills as usual in preparation for this weekend's game against Southern Illinois University. They were, however, given an update on their coach's condition. \n"We had another team meeting, and they said everything went well," senior safety Eric McClurg said after practice. "Now it's just recovery time"
