UPDATE: UConn shuts down Hoosiers in 14-7 IU loss

Murky quarterback situation for the Hoosiers

With the rain chasing away the home crowd, IU took the field Saturday afternoon with quarterback Blake Powers back at the helm. After missing IU's last two games, Powers showed some early rust with the Hoosiers having three third-and-outs in their first three possessions.\nAt the six-minute mark, freshman quarterback Kellen Lewis replaced Powers but had similar results. On his first drive, Lewis threw an interception that Connecticut linebacker Danny Lansanah returned 39 yards for the first score of the game.\nAt the start of the second quarter, sophomore cornerback Tracy Porter intercepted a D.J. Hernandez pass -- Porter's second interception of the day. IU was unable to capitalize with Powers now replacing Lewis. Powers threw an interception on his first attempt, giving the ball back to the Huskies.\nMinutes later the sloppy football continued, with senior safety Will Meyers recovering a Connecticut fumble, but once again Powers wasn't able to get the Hoosiers into the end zone.\nPorter continued his strong play in the first half, blocking a Matt Nuzie field goal with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Meyers recovered the ball, returning it 26 yards.\nNeither team was able to put any more points on the board in the sloppy first half with Connecticut taking its 7-0 lead into the half.\nBoth teams scored on their first drives in the second half with Huskies running back Lou Allen running in a 35-yard touchdown run and sophomore running back Marcus Thigpen returning the proceeding kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. Thigpen's return closed the Connecticut gap to 14-7.\nLate in the third quarter, Lewis was picked off for a second time, killing the IU drive after three completions totaling 41 yards. After regaining possession, Powers returned for the second time in the game with Lewis relegated to the bench again.\nUp seven points in the fourth quarter, the Connecticut offense ran down the clock to under four minutes before giving the ball over to IU.\nThe Hoosier offense had two last chances in the fourth quarter, but came up empty in the game's closing minutes. Connecticut would run out the clock with the 14-7 lead, dropping IU to 2-2 on the season.
