More than a year after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, devastating cities and lives throughout Louisiana and Mississippi, much of the area still remains in disarray. \nIn order to help the region, members of IU's greek system intend to help the victims of Katrina by setting up the Road Trip to Recovery, a journey to the Gulf Coast to assist the rebuilding effort. \nThe call-out meeting for the relief trip is 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Burger King in the Indiana Memorial Union. Organizers said the trip is open only to members of the greek community at IU. \nChelsea Vanderlinden, one of the leaders of the program and a member of Delta Gamma, said the program is a great way to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina while "uniting the greek system at IU."\nParticipants in the relief trip will depart for Pass Christian, Miss., Thursday, Oct. 19 and will return Oct. 22. Vanderlinden said the group will drive to Pass Christian in rented vans at night Oct. 19 so they can begin the volunteer work in the morning. \nShe said IU is partnering with God's Katrina Kitchen, a faith-based outreach group in Pass Christian, and the volunteers will be serving food to the homeless and poor. Vanderlinden said she hopes the program will attract enough participants that students can go into town and do manual labor, such as picking up debris and rebuilding houses.\nGod's Katrina Kitchen will provide the IU participants' housing, which Vanderlinden said "can be anything from hotels to tents outside"
