Welcome to the 2006 IU women's basketball season. Some of the names have changed, but the situation is eerily similar.\nHoosier Hysteria gets underway with the doors opening at 9 p.m. tonight at Assembly Hall. At 10:45 p.m., when the women's team hits the floor, the Felisha Legette-Jack era will officially begin.\n"It's my first year here, but we've been partaking for many years at other universities, and it's just a good time for the kids," Legette-Jack said. "We've been in preseason for six weeks, and we've been yelling at them 'We want faster, faster, faster.' And now the basketball begins, and this is the celebration that basketball is about to begin."\nSharon Versyp's time at IU lasted only a season, but the Hoosiers are ready to start a new year and embrace their third coach in three seasons.\n"I think Coach Jack is great. She's really a breath of fresh air for us," junior guard Nikki Smith said. "She's really intense and really positive with us. What happened last year happened; it's over with. This whole coaching staff is really good for us. They're really intense, and they love Indiana. We know they're in it for the long haul."\nSmith said she's excited about getting the opportunity to play in the packed Assembly Hall in front of people who are not always there when the Hoosiers play a home game.\n"It's kind of a kickoff to our season with great support, and it's such a cool thing to hear 10,000 fans scream," Smith said. "After Midnight Madness, you have that adrenaline going."\nAfter losing three starters from last season's quarterfinal WNIT squad, the Hoosiers look to fill the void left by their two leading scorers, Cyndi Valentin and Jenny DeMuth. Valentin left IU the sixth-highest scorer in the history of the women's program with 1,769 points scored in her career.\n"We need to have great team chemistry and be able to communicate well on the floor," senior guard Leah Enterline said. "Not that we didn't have that last year, but that's a must for any team. We don't have the numbers that we had last year, so everyone's going to have to step up and play their role."\nIf there is one thing that is already known about this year's Hoosier Hysteria, it's that there will be a new three point shooting champion in the competition. Valentin was the champion in three of the last four Hoosier Hysteria/Midnight Madness events. This year Legette-Jack has a vision of who she thinks will follow in Valentin's Hoosier Hysteria footsteps.\n"I think it's (senior center) Sarah (McKay)," she said. "Sarah is a prolific three point shooter. We're going to have a couple post players involved. We're going to have (Smith) involved. We're just going to mix it all up, get the crowd involved."\nEnterline said she hopes some fans will want to attend more games after seeing the women's team at Hoosier Hysteria.\n"For Midnight Madness hopefully we can get fans to come out and see us and come back to watch us play," Enterline said. "Women's basketball is exciting, and I think some people, especially on this campus, don't seem to know as much about it"
