James Hardy and Kellen Lewis are still getting to know each other.\nWith Lewis having started only three games heading into Saturday, the sophomore receiver and the freshman quarterback were just trying to get on the same page.\n"He and I in practice are starting to talk more, watch film together, just whatever we need to do to get that chemistry on the field," Hardy said.\nIn Saturday's 31-28 upset of No. 15 Iowa, the quarterback-receiver combo utilized its new-found chemistry to the fullest.\nLewis completed three touchdown passes to his 6-foot-7 receiver, while also rushing into the end zone for one of his own. The last touchdown of the day turned out to be the biggest with Lewis hooking up with a wide open Hardy streaking into the end zone for a 20-yard scoring strike.\nThe touchdown put the Hoosiers up 31-28 with less than 10 minutes remaining, a lead they did not relinquish.\nOn a career-day, Lewis set new personal bests with 255 yards passing -- 19-for-25 completions -- and three touchdowns, all of them to his new favorite receiver.\n"Confidence comes with time," sophomore receiver James Bailey said. "The more time, the more confident (Kellen) will get. He's just a good quarterback."\nLewis completed passes to six different Hoosiers Saturday, but his receiver of choice was Hardy. The freshman said he realizes what a benefit it is to have a target who can go up and get the ball.\n"You can't coach 6-foot-6, 6-foot-7 height," Lewis said. "Anytime we feel like we've got a one-on-one matchup, we'll take our shot with James Hardy."\nThe sophomore receiver turned in his second strong performance in a row, pulling down eight catches, including three for touchdowns. Last week at Illinois, Hardy grabbed five catches for 67 yards.\nHardy's three touchdown catches were the most by a Hoosier since Oct. 8, 1983 when Duane Gunn performed the same feat against Minnesota. The sophomore moved to fifth on IU's all-time receiving touchdown list with a career total of 14.\nLast year when the Hoosiers traveled to Iowa, Hardy turned in a similar performance with 12 catches for 203 yards and a touchdown, a fact that was not lost on Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz.\n"With Hardy, start with his size," Ferentz said. "He's not just a big guy. He's a good football player. We are 0-2 with him, year to year."\nIU coach Terry Hoeppner attributes Hardy's recent turnaround to moving him around on the field so opposing defenses have trouble keeping track of him.\n"We started moving him around in formations, not just playing him at a (given position)," Hoeppner said. "He came through with some big-time catches."\nOn a day when IU's offensive stars made big play after big play, Hardy was just happy to see the Hoosiers put two wins back-to-back.\n"From last week winning our first (Big Ten) road game in five years and coming back and beating a ranked team, it's huge for us," Hardy said. "It's a huge confidence boost heading into Ohio State"
