Camerata Orchestra Series celebrates 18th season with 'Glitz'

The Camerata Orchestra Series, now in its 18th season, will present its "Glitz" show at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Carmichael Hall of Bloomington South High School.\nThe orchestra is made up of current and former IU faculty, music students and local residents, and it often features internationally known guest conductors and soloists. This Sunday's performance will be conducted by Hungarian Imre Palló and will feature journeyman session drummer Kenny Aronoff, an IU alum. \nPalló was born in Budapest and has worked with orchestras around the world and at IU. He conducted for over 20 years with the New York City Opera, and in 1994 here was the chair of the IU Instrumental Conducting Department. He is currently the professor and chair of conducting and opera productions at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Australia. \nAronoff graduated from IU in 1976 and has worked with John Mellencamp, Elton John, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Santana and other famous musicians. He has played on over 30 Grammy-nominated records and has been named the No. 1 pop and rock drummer for five consecutive years by Modern Drummer Magazine. Aronoff worked at IU as an associate professor of percussion from 1993 to 1997. \nThis Sunday's program features "The Three Cornered Hat Suite 2" from Manuel de Falla, "American in Paris" by George Gershwin and "La Valse" by Maurice Ravel.\nTickets, $4 for students and $12 for adults, are available at the door.
