The IU Art Museum staff has found a new way of presenting its permanent collection. For the past few years, the Art Museum has offered a thematic tour of the museum on the first Saturday of each month. The themes are wide in variety, ranging from science to Shakespeare, with each tour providing a new approach to understanding and learning about art.\nFrom 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, professor and museum docent Richard Burke will give a tour called "The Artist as \nStoryteller." \n"Our tour will look at paintings, sculpture and photographs where the artist has been inspired by a story," Burke said.\nTour guides like Burke select the themes of each tour with the help of the education department at the IU Art Museum.\n"These tours offer something for the public that is accessible and interactive. It offers a specialized topic and is a way of bridging art with other subjects," said Ed Maxedon, the IU Art Museum's Lucienne M. Glaubinger curator of education.\n"The Artist as Storyteller" will show the relation of art to history and literature. The artwork being showcased on the tour ranges from those derived from Greek and Roman mythology to pieces related to biblical stories. The art on display will provide insight to that period of literature.\nThe tour is open to the public, and admission is free. Preregistration is not needed. Visitors should meet at 2 p.m. in the Thomas T. Solley Atrium on the first floor, according to a press release issued by the museum. Parking will be available at the Indiana Memorial Union, and anyone who parks there can receive a parking validation at the museum. "The Artist as Storyteller" will be shown this \nSaturday only.
