Less than a month before the track and field season starts, IU coach Randy Heisler resigned as IU's director of track and field and head coach of the men's and women's program Dec. 2.\n"I am so grateful to everyone at IU for the opportunity to be a part of this program for the past 17 years and to work with so many talented student-athletes," Heisler said in a statement. "At this time, however, I am looking forward to exploring other opportunities."\nHeisler served as the head coach of the women's track-and-field program for nine years before he took over the role for both teams in the summer of 2003. The 2006-2007 season would have been Heisler's fourth year as director of track and field.\n"We appreciate coach Heisler's years of service to IU," Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan said in a statement. "We wish Randy and his family nothing but the best in their future endeavors."\nDuring Heisler's time at IU, the women's team won three Big Ten championships, while the men's team clinched fifth place, its best ever, at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships.\nGreenspan will conduct a national search for a replacement, although an interim coach will be named quickly. There is no timetable scheduled when a new coach will be named.
