FINALLY!

Colts defeat rival Patriots to advance to Super Bowl

Down 21-3 in the second quarter of the Indianapolis Colts-New England Patriots AFC Championship game, it looked to many throughout the state of Indiana that it would be another "next year" type of season for Peyton Manning and the gang.\n"This could be the best moment of my life, or it could be the worst" said IU sophomore Mike Rowe, an Indianapolis native who was rooting for the Colts to advance to the Super Bowl.\nBut late-game heroics from Manning and a late interception by Indianapolis cornerback Marlon Jackson sealed a 38-34 Indianapolis victory and a trip to Miami for Super Bowl XLI. \nIt also ensured that many throughout Bloomington would celebrate.\nOn Teter-Thompson's fourth floor, freshman Kara Sevier ran throughout the residence hall screaming with some of her closest friends. In the moments after the Colts win, she was already looking forward to the Feb. 4 Super Bowl match between the Colts and the Chicago Bears.\n"I'm speechless," Sevier said. "The Colts are bitchin', and they're going to kill the Bears."\nSeveral Colts fans at Yogi's Grill and Bar, 519 E. 10th St., had similar ill-wishes toward the Bears.\n"This is amazing," said IU senior Leah James. "I hope they kill the Bears. Peyton's my man. The Bears suck. That's all that needs to be said."\nThey also had some words for Bears quarterback Rex Grossman, a graduate of Bloomington High School South.\n"We don't care about sexy Rexy," said IU alum Jessie Ridge. "I went to school with sexy Rexy. He was a bum."\nNot everybody in Bloomington rejoiced in the Indianapolis victory.\nBrian Violete, an IU alum from Portland, Maine, lamented the Patriots' loss.\n"I really had nothing to lose, but, I'm pretty pissed off," Violete said. "At least it didn't come down to an Adam Vinatieri field goal."\nFor most, though, the Colts' win was cause for celebration. The victory means the franchise will advance to the Super Bowl for the first time since winning in 1970 -- and the first time they made the trip to the NFL title game since moving from Baltimore to Indianapolis in 1984. The streets throughout campus were filled with screaming fans as their team got a chance to finally finish their season they way they want.
