The complete morons' guide to: orchestral instrumentation

Orchestras are musical groups made up of string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. IU has six different orchestras including the Chamber, Concert, Philharmonic, Symphonic, University and Baroque Orchestras. The differences between the different orchestras are the size and musical selections. Chamber orchestras are small, usually with fewer than 50 members, while symphony orchestras, sometimes called philharmonic orchestras, can have more than 100. Bands differ from orchestras in their instrumentation. In an orchestra the most prominent instruments are the strings, making up more than half of the ensemble. Bands do not use strings.
