As senior Laura McGaffigan battled Marquette's Kylie Moore through a tie-breaking third set, a row of seven other Hoosiers in the adjacent court encouraging their team captain.\nMcGaffigan took the set, winning the match 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, to cap the first of the IU women's tennis team's pair of Sunday victories against Marquette and Ball State. The Hoosiers won all but one point on the day, sweeping Marquette 7-0 before beating Ball State 6-1. \nMcGaffigan's long match ended after IU clinched its fist victory of the day, but the senior said the cheerleading efforts from her teammates were still very encouraging. That same enthusiasm, she said, was evident in their play.\n"We all came out strong," she said. "Everyone did a good job of doing their part."\nEach Hoosier who played was victorious in at least one singles or one doubles match. Doubles has been the area IU coach Lin Loring has sought the most improvement in, and Sunday he said IU's doubles play especially pleased him.\nLoring said he expected each doubles match against Marquette to be close, but of the three contests IU's slimmest margin of victory against the Golden Eagles was 8-5. The strong doubles play continued against Ball State as each Hoosier duo raced to at least a 3-0 lead before cruising to a comfortable victory.\n"We just keep looking for a little bit of improvement every week," Loring said.\nThough there's still much work to do, Loring said he finally may have found his best pairings for doubles.\nFor the second week in a row, IU played a fresh opponent in its second match. But like Butler a week ago, Ball State was unable to capitalize on this advantage for the upset. In fact, the Hoosiers defeated the Cardinals just as quickly as they did Marquette, with Ball State's only singles victory coming in the one match that IU didn't finish in two sets. \nSenior Cecile Perton said she had high expectations of the team going into Sunday, but the relative ease in which the Hoosiers won sweetened the victories.\n"I thought we would win," she said. "But it's always nice to win that way"
