Rested water polo ready to rebound this weekend

After stumbling to a 3-5 start to open the season, IU is looking for some wins

With a week off to recuperate and prepare for the Terrapin Invite this weekend at College Park, Md., the IU women's water polo team knows exactly what it wants to do this weekend.\n"Win some games, play some hard 'D' and hit our shots." junior goalie Jackie Pyrz said.\nThe Hoosiers (3-5) play against host Maryland on Saturday, followed by a game against George Washington. On Sunday they'll clash with No. 13 Hartwick College and finish the weekend against No. 17 Princeton.\n"We're playing new teams this weekend, and we practiced based off of some of the things that (the other teams) will be doing." junior attacker Brooke Zimmerman said. "Hartwick does some things that usually you never see." \nOne of these unusual tactics that Hartwick uses is having one of its players parallel with the goalie, in essence giving the team two goalies. IU coach Barry King is confident that his team will be able to handle this unusual strategy.\n"It's hard to work on it in practice, we don't know what their personnel is," King said. "But once we see it once or twice in the game we'll be fine."\nHaving not played a game since Feb. 4, King said the Hoosiers used the time off to work on converting power plays and defending the opposing teams counter attacks. But King said not having to travel and being able to rest was just as important for the team.\n"It was very beneficial to us to have the week off, because we weren't well physically," King said.\nWith the team well rested and thoroughly prepared, the Hoosiers hope to generate positive results this weekend.\n"We go to win as much as possible and (we) want to see some of the fruits of our labor," King said. "Our number one goal is to be better today then the day before and this will be a good evaluation"
