Kelvin Sampson will see his first senior night as the Hoosiers’ coach Saturday when IU hosts Penn State, but the most important senior in Sampson’s life beat the Hoosiers to the punch. \nOklahoma senior guard Kellen Sampson – Kelvin’s son – celebrated his senior night last night in Norman, Okla., with his father in attendance. \nThe Sooners hosted the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks in Norman last night.\nKellen Sampson joined the Sooners four years ago, in his father’s eighth year at the helm of that program. The guard has never made much of statistical impact in Norman – he’s averaging just 2.9 minutes per game this year – but Kelvin Sampson’s successor at Oklahoma, Jeff Capel, decided to keep Kellen and let him finish his senior season. At the same time, Kellen decided to stay and finish his senior season at his father’s behest. \n“The night he called me to the house,” Kellen Sampson told the Tulsa World, “Dad told me, ‘No matter what, it’s important to me and your mother that you graduate from the University of Oklahoma. You’re an Oklahoma kid.’”\n“Karen (Sampson’s wife) and I will forever be indebted to Jeff Capel for being so good to Kellen,” Kelvin Sampson told the Tulsa World.\nKellen Sampson will begin graduate school at IU after his graduation in May, Kelvin Sampson said earlier this year. He will also join his father’s staff, reuniting the two on the same sideline after a year of separation, according to the Norman Transcript.
