John Wustrow - 11:09 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nSLAM!!! I think the door just shut on the Bears. Kelvin Hayden just returned a Grossman interception for a touchdown. It's now 29-17 Colts.\nGrossman responds by throwing another interception. It looks like it's going to take a miracle for the Bears to get back in this one.\nMany Colts fans didn't want to talk about the celebration until the game was over as to not jinx their team. But once the clock ran out the celebration was on.\n"It's too bad about 20 cars are going to get flipped over and burned tonight," said junior James Fleck. "I just hope its not mine."\nWell on that note I better wrap this up and head to my car to make sure my Escort is still standing. Congratulations Colts fans.
\nDeAntae Prince - 9:31 p.m. - Teter :
That hit on Marvin Harrison may affect this fourth quarter greatly, after he limped off the field. But Harrison isn't going out of the game, and refused the training staff's assessment.\nBut what is really crucial right now is the drive for the Bears. This would definitely be a great chance for Bears to score. But now Grossman is intercepted and the Colts ran it back for a touchdown.\n"He has done nothing but fallen on his ass all game, Rex Grossman is nothing," Will Paine said.
John Wustrow - 9:14 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nThe WISH TV commercial was the worst ad in the history of Super Bowl ads. Horrible.
John Wustrow - 9:11 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nWell I'm starting to lose my wireless connection at Nick's. I guess you could say I have connectile dysfunction. I mean, now that I know what it's called thanks to that Sprint ad. Vinatieri just made another field goal extending the score to 19-14. I think unless anyone from the Colts does anything spectacular before the games out, he should be the Super Bowl MVP. I've always wanted to see an offensive lineman win one, but that's not going to happen, so just give it to the kicker.\nRex Grossman is sacked for the second play in a row after he botches the snap.\n"I don't think he's going to win us the game," Barriball said. "We need a turnover run back for a touchdown."\n"We need to start doing something before I fall asleep," Timpe added.\nThe very next play Rhodes runs for 36 yards. A few plays later Vinatieri adds to his case for MVP by making a field goal while a Bears defender runs into him.\n"Vinatieri won our one playoff game (against the Ravens)," Imburgia said. "You might as well give it to him now that he's in the Super Bowl."\nThe K-Fed Nationwide ad just took over as my new favorite from the game. The Bud Light ad one that followed was solid as well. These just keep getting better.
DeAntae Prince - 8:55 p.m. - Read Center Lounge:\nA big challenge from Dungy just went the other way. Dungy didn't believe their was 11 members of the Bears defense on the field. This loss may be critical, considering the closeness of this game.\nWe'll see if the lost time out will come back to haunt the Colts later in the game.\nA field goal by Vinatieri followed the lost challenge, giving the Colts a 19-14 edge.\nThe Bears got the ball back and Grossman can't hold on to the ball. The Bears are forced to Punt for the fifth time.
John Wustrow - 8:32 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nThe second half has came to an end, and we have seen a return of the fumbles. The Colts are in great field position. And now they're unable to come through and they send out Vinatieri to do what he does best: Get three points in the Super Bowl as the time runs out. But Tony Dungy almost pulls a trick from the Herm Edwards clock management school and the clock almost runs out before Dungy realizes he needs to call a time out. Still Vinatieri is unable to come through and goes wide.\nThe score remains 16-14 at the half. That last drive could come back to bite the Colts. We'll see.\nI haven't been able to talk much about the ads early on, and really haven't been able to see half of them, but the top three that I've seen so far are:\n1) Carlos Mencia Bud Light\n2) The Auctioneer\n3) The Chevy Music Genres ad\nBudweiser has pulled out the big guns just like they do every year always do for the Super Bowl.\nAnd now our halftime performer: Prince. This was a move that just puzzles me. Wasn't the Janet Jackson incident the last time CBS televised the Super Bowl? Did the station not learn anything from that. I'm not calling for a boring halftime show with marching bands, but I would not be surprised if Prince did something that makes Janet Jackson's nipplegate look like nothing.\nPrince begins his set and it appears he's turned into a cover band. He hasn't done any of his own songs yet. Finally on the last song he pulls out an original, "Purple Rain".\n"I think it was a good performance, but the stage was way too bright," senior Katie Steiner said. "You couldn't see him at all, at least from far away you wouldn't have been able to."\nAlright enough of this halftime, it's time for the game to start again.
\nDeAntae Prince - 7:56 p.m. - Read Center Lounge:\nWith halftime on the way, fans began to get ready for the Prince performance.\nSophmore Grant Dishman said he was looking forward to the performance and Dave Chappelle played a part in it.\n"Prince is ballin' just because Dave Chappelle brought him to the forefront of comedy. He's sexy and looks like he's still 20," Dishman said.\nThe excitement associated with the Prince performance will be fulfilled as soon as the Bears and Colts are done fumbling the football.
John Wustrow - 7:44 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nPlay has slowed down early in the second quarter. No scoring other than a Vinatieri field goal, no turnovers, a much easier job for me to write these updates than late in the first quarter. The rain seems to be coming down even harder now. We just found out Marvin Harrison has never had a touchdown reception in this stadium. It almost feels like a foreshadowing statement.\nIt's not. Dominic Rhodes goes for a one-yard touchdown run to give the Colts their first lead of the game, 16-14.\nJunior Chatigny Imburgia is excited that her Colts have their first lead of the game.\n"But it's still not the second half of the game," she points out.
John Wustrow - 7:26 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nThe Bears fumble the ball again. Neither team can hold on to the ball.\n"I feel like it's the Purdue-IU game when we played them this year," Timpe said.\nSo far the rain appears to be affecting the play on the field, too.\n"I think it's just two great teams going against each other and they're just at each other constantly," Trachtman said. "I guess that's what happens when you get to the Super Bowl."\nEnd of the first quarter the score is still 14-6, Bears.\n"Two out of the three touchdowns were by University of Miami players," the Floridian Harvey Walfish pointed out.
John Wustrow - 7:11 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \n6:50 to go in the first quarter and Peyton Manning's back. With a 53-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne.\n"I'm so proud of Reggie Wayne that was a huge connection with Peyton Manning," Fagan said. "We needed that score on the board early in the game."\nJust as Fagan is saying that, the Bears fumbled the ball giving possession back to the Colts.\n"Even though Vinatieri missed the kick we're back in the game," Fagan said.\nBut that was followed by a Colts fumble. And then a Bears touchdown. This is getting to crazy for me to follow with.
DeAntae Prince -7:09 p.m. - Read Center Lounge: \nAfter two turnovers fans got a little pissed.\n"Are you serious?" said one Read Center fan. \n"This looks like an IU basketball game," yelled another.\nThe people at Read Center are really cheering the Bears on with intensity and loved the Thomas Jones run, which was the longest of the season for the Bears. That was followed by another Bear touchdown from Rex Grossman to Muhsin Muhammad.\nDrew Steckelmann, a Chicago born, Indy native said he was torn on the outcome, but didn't see much fight in the Colts.\n"It was a good drive but it doesn't seem as if they had to try very hard to get through the Colts' defensive line."
DeAntae Prince -6:55 p.m. - Read Center Lounge:
Peyton is intercepted after almostbeing picked twice. Colts fans have been silenced as Bears fans rejoice once again. \nAt least the Colts fans can enjoy the great Super Bowl commercials that have brought about plenty of laughter. Rex Grossman just gave every Bear fan a scare, looking like his interception-prone form of earlier in the season.\nThe fans are evenly dispersed in the Read Center Lounge, but the Bears fans seem louder. Free pizza just arrived so no one is sitting down anymore, but anyway the Colts fans seem to be really focused and hoping Peyton doesn't throw another pick.
John Wustrow - 6:52 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nThe piano man himself, Billy Joel is singing the national anthem. Seems to be a popular choice here, everyone cheered when he was introduced.\nIt's just about time to start the game. The hype of the last two weeks, all the build up, the pressure, and the trash-talking around campus, it all comes down to this.\nBut first the coin toss. The loudest cheer for a Colts captain came for kicker Adam Vinatieri. The Bears won the toss. And for the first piece of useless information that's the 10th Super Bowl coin toss in a row won by the NFC. I'm so glad we have statisticians who figure this out.\nIt's raining in Miami. It should be interesting to see how this affects Peyton's offense since he's used to be playing in a dome.\n"I'm definitely nervous about it just because we're used to the dome and good conditions," said senior Zibby Trachtman, a Colts fan. "But at the same time this weather is not what the Bears deal with either. They're used to the weather, but no the temperatures."\nKickoff … and Devin Hester returns it for a touchdown. The Bears fans may be low in numbers but they are certainly loud.\n"That was amazing," Barriball said. "But I'm a little bit nervous because Ohio State started out the national championship game the same way and then choked to Florida. I'm nervous, but I'm happy."
John Wustrow - 6:49 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nIt's less than a half hour before kickoff, and it still is pretty Colts heavy here at Nick's.\n"I think it's going to be a good game," said senior Katie Fagen, a Colts fan. "I'm really excited to see how it ends up. We got a good offense they got a good defense. It's going be a wild one."\nFagen is watching the game with a group of fans that is comprised mostly of Colts fans. But two in the group, seniors Emily Hull and Elizabeth Tejan, are Bears fans. Despite being outnumbered, they are not intimidated.\n"We'll represent," Tejan said.\nSenior Samantha Timpe is another one of the few Bears fans here. She came to Nick's to watch the game with her boyfriend, Purdue student Ed Barriball. Timpe said she's ready for the game to start.\n"I'm sick of being harassed by Colts fans," she said. "Everywhere, at work, my classes, they're all Colts fans."\nMeanwhile the three hosts of CBS' pregame show all just picked the Colts to win the game, as it seems most of the media has. It seems like everyone has written off the Bears. A lot like they wrote off the Patriots in their Super Bowl against the Rams. Hey, I'm just saying.\nAnyway, while waiting for the game to start I came up with a couple fun over/unders.\nNumber of commercials that debut during the game that also feature Peyton Manning: 2.5\nNumber of times security at Dolphins Stadium forced Tank Johnson to go through metal detectors: 4.5\nNumber of times video from the Super Bowl Shuffle is shown: 0.5\nRex Grossman's quarterback rating for the game: 40\nSpeaking of Grossman, remember the first two weeks when he was playing at the top of his game? At the time I suggested his nickname be Touchdownasaurus Rex. I should probably be in one of those NFL Network "Time to straighten your story" ads.\nThat's all I have for now. I'll see you at kickoff.
DeAntae Prince - 6:05 p.m. - Read Center Lounge: \nBefore the game, as the pre-game festivities rage on, both Bears and Colts fans think it will be a close one.\nSophmore Drew Morrison said he thought it would come down to a field goal from Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri.\n"I expect a game-winning field goal and Peyton Manning to be the MVP of the Super Bowl," Morrison said.\nMegan McGrath, a freshman Bears fan, said it would be close but "Da Bears" would come out with the win.\n"The Bears are definitely going to win," she said. "But I think it'll be a close game and the defensive line will save the Bears by getting pressure on Peyton Manning."
John Wustrow -5:22 p.m. - Nick's English Hut: \nI'm here live from Nick's English Hut, bringing you all the exciting action happening on Kirkwood for Super Bowl XLI. I'll be here until the end of the game bringing you commentary from the game, commercials, half time show, and of course any bar fight that might erupt between Colts and Bears fans. This could get interesting so stick around. Or better yet come visit me at Nicks. You know you want to. \nI found a couple, Harvey and Missy Walfish, who came up from Hollywood, Fla., just 15 minutes from Dolphins Stadium. The Walfish's have a son, Brett, who's in the Jacobs Music School.\n"We've come here for the last year, visiting every month," Missy said.\nThough they live in Florida, the Walfishes have picked a side.\n"It's the Colts," Missy said. "That's going to be our new love."\n"Besides the Dolphins," Harvey quickly added.\nMost people near Kirkwood were wearing Colts gear, but it's still about two hours until kickoff, so there's plenty of time for the Bears fans to come out in full force. \nI'll be back with my pre-game analysis after I finish my bacon burger.
