After reading “DUIs 4-eva” (May 21) by Colleen Carroll, I have to wonder how many DUIs she has accumulated since she appears remarkably defensive on the subject. Colleen remarks that drunk driving punishments are not fair at all. Gosh, maybe it would be better for police to just warn the inebriated driver and let them drive on. Possibly they’ll run into somebody and kill them and the alcohol-related fatality count might eventually get pushed above Colleen’s “meager” rating. I suppose it is possible that she is comparing 604 alcohol-related deaths in 2004 to President Bush’s sanctioned murder of hundreds of thousands of human beings. In that context, I agree that 604 is indeed a meager number. Colleen also whines nastily about field sobriety tests and how the driver is not given an option about taking them, about “militant” MADD members, about driving slower when drunk (that makes it OK?), about scapegoating drunk drivers, and so on, ad nauseum. Poor Colleen, poor Paris Hilton, airheads without a cause. Colleen, grow up and accept responsibility for your actions.
