Past, current Hoosiers \ncompete at USA Track Championships

Four members of the IU women’s track and field team competed in USA Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Indianapolis. Senior Jessica Gall competed in the 10,000 meter run Thursday, finishing with a time of 35:26.91 to finish in 19th place. Also on Thursday, freshman Rachel Ehret ran unattached in the 3,000 meter event, finishing 10th in the junior race with a time of 10:23.00\nOn Friday, freshman Ashley Rhoades competed unattached in the junior women’s high jump, but was unable to clear the first height of 1.65 meters.\nFinishing off for the Hoosiers on Saturday was senior Lorian Price, who finished 16th in the long jump with a distance of 6.08 meters. \nIn addition to the four current student-athletes who competed for IU, two former Hoosiers and volunteer assistant coaches competed in the weekend events. Rose Richmond, the winner of the women’s long jump event in the 2005 USA Indoor Track and Field, finished third in the same event with a mark of 6.67 meters. In the men’s long jump event Aarik Wilson finished sixth with a mark of 8.11 meters. In Sunday’s Triple Jump, Wilson took first place with a jump of 17.06 meters

DeGain returns to coach IU

Former IU All-American wrestler Pat DeGain is coming back to Bloomington to coach the Hoosiers. DeGain was a heavyweight wrestler at IU from 2002-2005. He had spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Virginia.\n“I feel very excited and fortunate to get Pat DeGain back into our program,” IU coach Duane Goldman said in a statement. “As a student-athlete he was a tremendous competitor and leader and he has now proven himself to be an effective coach at Virginia. We relish the opportunity to bring an IU alum back on our staff.”\nDeGain posted a career record of 115-31, including a 35-6 record his senior year, when he earned a third place finish in the NCAA Tournament\n“It’s exciting for me to be a coach under Duane and with Duane after wrestling for him,” DeGain said in a statement. “I learned a lot from him while I was there so I think things are going to go well. I’m really looking forward to returning to Bloomington.”

Campillo competes in British tournament

IU golfer Jorge Campillo fell in the quarterfinals of the British Amateur Championship this weekend at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in Lytham St Anne’s, England.\nCampillo advanced to match play in the tournament and then won the first three rounds of match play by scores of 3 and 2, 7 and 6, and 2 and 1. In the quarterfinals, the native of Caceres, Spain fell to Australia’s Tim Stewart, 1-up.

Divers represent IU in Italy

Senior Christina Loukas and alumna Cassandra Cardinell, class of 2005, both had top 10 finishes in the Italian Grand Prix June 17 in Rome.\nLoukas picked up two medals, earning a silver in the three meter synchro where she was paired with Purdue’s Amanda Miller, and a bronze in the one-meter. Loukas and Miller earned a score of 302.10 behind Italy’s gold medal winning due of Francesca Dallape and Noemi Batki who had a score of 302.52. In the one meter event, Loukas finished with a score of 261.65.\nCardinell finished sixth in the platform with a score of 315.60
