Iraq’s democracy depends on Iraqis

I read a report about corruption in the Iraq government. Everyone seems so surprised and upset about it. I don’t understand that attitude. When the Bush regime set up its puppet government in Iraq, did they really expect a storybook democracy? What Iraq was force fed was the U.S. version of democracy (accurately called an oligarchy) with all its deep rooted corruption. If you don’t have the finances or wealthy friends to hold multi-million dollar political campaigns then you are not going to get into office in the U.S. \nThe true leaders of this country are the billionaires that pull the strings of the dancing political puppets on our national stage. The Bush regime is not totally at fault for its deep-set corruption and crimes. The U.S. government has been sliding this direction since the ‘40s. Bush is just the natural result of our oligarchic approach to government.\nI read that even Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s office is suspected of corruption. al-Maliki supposedly has intervened many times in cases involving political supporters. George Bush has done that consistently since he has been in office. Why is anyone surprised that the puppet government in Iraq follows suit?\nWe have a government that lies obsessively, spies on its own citizens illegally, tortures prisoners, conducts illegal wars and commits serious war crimes in the process. The worst part about all of this is that we have become used to this. We know and accept that our political leaders are going to lie to us, and we hardly flinch when rich contracts are assigned to governmental friends and families. Hurricane Katrina roars through, and people die of neglect and government apathy. \nThat is just how it is, right? Hate it when that happens.\nPolitical parties don’t matter; it is our complete “democratic” system that encourages corruption. I know that the horrors that the American government have been unleashing upon the world for decades will not end. There is too much momentum, greed and apathy. It will take a catastrophe or revolution to effect a real change.
