ATO to benefit Harmony school Sunday

Fraternity has goal to raise $4,000 in scholarship funds

Alpha Tau Omega and Alpha Phi will be working together Sunday to raise money and volunteer for the Harmony School’s Harvest Festival. The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on campus. \nThere will be numerous events at both ATO and the Harmony School. The money will be raised through a mile-long walk on the lower part of campus, which is about a mile long. The kids from the school will be walking around campus while ATO and Alpha Phi members will be acting as crossing guards. The fraternity and sorority members will be participating in other activities as well. \nColin Nabity, president of Alpha Tau Omega, explained that the money raised will go toward Harmony’s scholarship fund as well as Mother Hubbard’s Kitchen. The fraternity’s goal is to raise $4,000 for the scholarship through the walking. \nSophomore and philanthropy chair Dusty DeWitt explained that at the Harmony School, most of the kids are on scholarship, and the money raised will go toward funding those scholarships. \nHarmony School has been dedicating its education services to all students since 1974. The school enrolls all ages from elementary level through high school. \nThe walk will pass the front lawn of ATO on Third Street, where there will be activities and refreshments. The walk finishes at the Harmony School, where there will be a pie eating contest, a tug-of-war contest, a band and other games for the kids. \nHenry explained that ATO and Alpha Phi each formed a team for the tug-of-war contest. The boys will compete against the girls after the walk at the Harmony School. \nATO saw the opportunity to impact a local school and decided to reach out. \n“One of the biggest things about this is to show not only the campus, but the entire community, how important philanthropy is to greek Life,” DeWitt said. “We wanted to benefit a local and prominent organization.”
