Celebrate IU week events

To celebrate IU’s annual homecoming weekend, the University has decided to do something different this year: Celebrate IU week. During Homecoming week, events, performances and lectures will be featured each night. From the Jacobs School of Music to the School of Fine Arts Gallery, there is no shortage of cultural happenings. Here’s a short list of free events.

Biography and Music Symposium lecture\nWhen: 3 p.m. Wednesday\nWhere: Ford-Crawford Hall, Jacobs School of Music\nMore Info: “Biography and Music Symposium” will feature guest lecturers Lewis Lockwood, the Fanny Peabody Research Professor of Music at Harvard University.

\nPair of Philharmonic Orchestra shows\nFeaturing two-time Grammy Award-winning soprano and senior lecturer Sylvia McNair and renowned pianist Andre Watts. \nWhen: 3 and 8 p.m. Thursday\nWhere: IU Auditorium\nMore Info: Two concerts celebrate Michael McRobbie’s inauguration.

\nPast Inaugurations exhibit at library\nWhen: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday\nWhere: Lilly Library\nMore Info: Focuses on the history of the IU presidency. The exhibit includes original letters, photos and documents from a selected number presidents’ inaugurations dating back to 1884. This week only.

\nCelebrating Creative IU Faculty\nWhen: On display from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Wednesday and Friday and noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. \nWhere: School of Fine Arts\nMore Info: This special exhibit for “Celebrate IU” week features art pieces from IU faculty members. The pieces come from all eight IU campuses.

\nIU Jazz Band led by Professor David Baker\nLed by Distinguished Professor of Music David Baker.\nWhen: 7 p.m. Sunday\nWhere: IU Auditorium\nMore Info: This is the second inaugural concert in honor of IU President Michael McRobbie. The band will be accompanied by soloist Marietta Simpson.
