Tickets available for next week’s Governor’s Arts Awards

Performances to include Jacobs School honoree Menahem Pressler

The 2007 Governor’s Arts Awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Musical Arts Center. Tickets are available for both the ceremony and the celebration dinner immediately following at the Bloomington Convention Center. The ceremony will feature special performances from three of the six honorees. Pianist Menahem Pressler, a distinguished professor at the Jacobs School of Music will be one of the performers along with jazz saxophonists Jamey Aebersold and Henry Leck with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, according to an Indiana Arts Commission press release. Tickets are available for $15 for the ceremony, or $80 for both the ceremony and the celebration dinner, and can be purchased online at www.in.gov/arts.\nThe Governor’s Arts Awards are held every other year and honor those who raise public awareness of the arts in Indiana, from individuals to large corporations. This year is the first time since the awards’ 1973 inception that the ceremony is being held outside Indianapolis. In addition to the performers, the other honorees include Fischoff National Chamber Music Association, Lori Efroymson Aguilera of Indianapolis andJasper, Ind.\nThe IAC’s goals are to increase access, awareness, education and support for the arts. The Governor’s Arts Awards are the highest honor the state gives for recognizing the arts and their important role in Indiana’s well-being, according to the commission’s Web site.
