Yo La Tengo performs today at Buskirk

Buskirk-Chumley Theater Concert Series and Union Board will present Yo La Tengo at 8 p.m. today at the historic Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave. The band is making a stop in Bloomington as part of the “Freewheeling Yo La Tengo Tour,” which will include songs from its latest album, “I Am Not Afraid of You And I Will Beat Your Ass.” According to a press release, the band will play a special, almost entirely acoustic set for the evening.\nThe band, which has become an important influence on the indie rock scene, formed in 1984 and has since released 16 albums. With a wide range of songs to choose from, from slow confessionals to upbeat rock, the group will try to captivate the audience with its “almost acoustic” set. Along with performing music from their entire catalog, the members will tell stories about their experiences as a band, and the audience is encouraged to chat with them during the concert, according to a press release.
