The IU men’s tennis team started its spring season in impressive fashion Monday, winning both of its home matches. \nThe Hoosiers played host to Cleveland State and Morehead State, and while the two opponents played different styles of tennis, the outcomes of both matches were the same – 7-0 sweeps. \n“Everyone had high energy throughout both matches and the results really speak for themselves,” IU senior Thomas Richter said. \nRichter’s play was particularly impressive because he finished 4-0 and didn’t lose a match.\n“I thought I played solid in both matches,” Richter said. “I attacked more than I usually do and let (my opponents) make the mistakes.”\nRichter wasn’t the only Hoosier to finish undefeated in Monday’s season opener. Indiana won all 14 of its singles matches and lost only one doubles match during the day. \n“Our goal today and throughout the season is to finish strong,” IU coach Randy Bloemendaal said. “Our energy level was good and we finished what we set out to do.”\nThe Hoosiers’ high energy was evident all day, from the moment they squared off against Cleveland State in the morning until they finished their afternoon match against Morehead State. \n“We really played well,” senior Peter Antons said. “It was a little tough adjusting to their style of play but we stuck to our game plan.”\n“We need to improve on following our shots and focusing a little better,” Antons added. \nThe Hoosiers are off until Friday when they will host Eastern Kentucky and Indiana State.\n“There are some things we still need to get better at,” Bloemendaal said. “Morehead State was a very athletic team and playing teams like that help us know where we stand.”
