This year will be the first time freshmen Emily Bedal and Sarah Ziker, members of Delta Gamma sorority, will take part in IU Sing. \n“It is required for all new pledge members to participate this year,” Bedal said.\nIU Sing is a competition where greek organizations, along with the residence halls and other campus organizations, come together and produce a musical play, Bedal said. IU Sing will be held Friday and Saturday at the IU Auditorium. \nDelta Gamma’s team is one of the many IU Sing groups to be practicing this week in preparation for the weekend’s performances. \nBedal said the song leaders come up with everything in the musical from the script to songs and even dance moves.\n“Our song leaders are so fun,” Bedal said. “They did such a good job and they are nice.” \nIU Sing will feature all the greek organizations plus other campus organizations. Each sorority is paired with a fraternity to develop one act, she said.\nZiker and Bedal both have front parts in their performance.\n“My part is kind of a lead, and it is fun,” Ziker said.\nThis year, Delta Gamma is paired with the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.\n“The guys are hilarious,” Bedal said. “I think we got lucky. We have a motivated group of guys to work with.”\nBedal said the members of Pi Kappa Phi have some good dance moves that will steal the show.\n“They are not afraid to look stupid,” Bedal said, laughing.\nBeing a freshman and new to everything can get frustrating at times, Bedal said. Her team has been rehearsing for two hours a night, three or four times a week since the third week of January. Practices are going well but it can be a little stressful at times, she said.\n“It’s crunch time,” Bedal said. “But it all comes together.”\nZiker said the experience is really fun and it is going to be different once they go on stage. \n“Right now we have been practicing in the fraternity’s dining room, but hopefully when we are on stage it will all come together,” she said.\nBedal said being involved with IU Sing is a good way to meet new people and get closer to new pledge members. She said because everyone is in the same boat, they all experience the good as well as the bad, and are able to form a bond away from partying. Bedal said IU Sing gives everyone the opportunity to see each other in a different light; everyone can be themselves. \nBedal said she hopes her team sets the bar high for the other performers. \nShe also said she hopes the performance sets the audience up for an enjoyable night. Bedal said everyone is motivated to come in first.\n“We want to win,” Bedal said. “Not be heartbroken.”\nBedal said when it comes down to it, the competition is a team effort. Every aspect of the performance makes it even better, she said, but you can’t have one without the other.\n“It’s a collaborative work, and without one part, it would not work,” she said.\nBedal said she is excited to be a part of IU Sing for the first time. \nShe summed up her team’s performance in one word. \n“Baller,” she said. \nAlthough she couldn’t say exactly what her team has come up with for the performance, Bedal did have one thing to say. \n“If you want to see a bunch of jailbirds break it down, come see us perform,” she said.
