Crawford to leave Hoosiers

Departure leaves only 2 players from last year’s squad

Jordan Crawford decided to transfer from IU Wednesday, making him the 11th player to leave the program since the end of last season.\nThe departure came just weeks after IU coach Tom Crean said he believed the Detroit native would return to the Hoosiers. In that same discussion, Crean said Crawford did not need to attend summer school and needed some time at home away from Bloomington.\nIU Director of Athletic Media Relations J.D. Campbell read a prepared statement from Crean to the IDS.\n“Jordan Crawford and his family informed us today that he will not return to Indiana University,” Campbell said.\nCrean and the team did not have any further comment, Campbell said.\nCrawford finished seventh in freshman scoring in the Big Ten with 9.7 points a game. His most impressive performance in a Hoosier uniform came against his older brother Joe and the Kentucky Wildcats. Crawford scored 20 points in 39 minutes of action against the Wildcats, picking up the scoring slack left by guards Eric Gordon and Armon Bassett who were unable to play in the game.\nCrawford leaves just a week after his name was accidentally not redacted in some parts of the NCAA case summary, which outlines what the NCAA Infractions Committee will adjudicate this week regarding former coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff.\nThe case summary revealed that Crawford received impermissible phone calls. While any current Hoosier players had their names redacted from the report for student privacy reasons, Crawford’s name was mistakenly revealed in the report in some instances.\nIt is uncertain where Crawford will transfer. One possibility could be Detroit-Mercy, where former assistant coach Ray McCallum recently took over as head coach. Former Hoosiers Xavier Keeling and Eli Holman both transferred earlier this spring.\nIU now only has two remaining players – junior forward Kyle Taber and freshman walk-on guard Brett Finkelmeier – from last year’s team.
