IU humbled at home by Cardinals

Ball State breaks Hoosiers at home

Quarterback Kellen Lewis scores a touchdown during the first half of the Hoosiers 42-20 loss to Ball State on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

Any talk of IU going to a bowl game just took a big hit.

The Hoosiers looked confused and outclassed in their 42-20 loss at home to Ball State on Saturday. Ball State controlled the game all evening, and the play on the field felt more lopsided than the score reflected.

The Hoosiers started strong and took a 3-0 advantage after blocking a punt to start the game. It would be their only lead.

After the Cardinals took a 7-3 lead, both teams traded scores until the scoreboard read 21-20. In the two minute drill, junior quarterback Kellen Lewis, trying to get IU points before the half, instead threw his second interception of the night, which went the other way for a touchdown.

From then on, Lewis looked uncomfortable in the pocket, overthrowing his receivers and making poor decisions in the passing game. Nate Davis, by contrast, had a stellar game, going 16-of-25 for 240 yards and a touchdown, leading his team to their first-ever victory over IU.

It was the first time in history Ball State has beaten IU, ending the Hoosiers record of four straight wins.
