Muniru commits to IU

Three-star prospect Bawa Muniru gave a verbal commitment to Tom Crean and the IU men’s basketball program, Scout.com confirmed late Thursday. The commitment of the 6-foot-11 Muniru means Crean has signed his maximum allowed allotment of six players for his first full recruiting class.

Muniru, originally from Guinea in West Africa, plays at Charis Prep in North Carolina. He was on campus last weekend for a recruiting visit, during which he spent time with the likes of fellow recruit Derek Elston and current IU players and coaches.

The commitment also means Crean has oversigned by one -- allowed by Big Ten rules -- and one player whose scholarship doesn’t come off the books next year will lose their ride to make way for the six members of IU’s 2009 recruiting class, considered among the best in the country by Rivals.com.
