Jacobs School of Music receives rare ensemble, orchestra score collection

Bassoon legend and faculty member Arthur Weisberg donated a collection of rare scores for ensemble and orchestra to the Jacobs School of Music, said Alain Barker, director of marketing and publicity for the music school.

Weisberg collected the scores from his tenure as conductor and music director of the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, which he founded in 1961.

The collection is unusual because most contemporary music is not available for purchase, Barker said.

“Many scores are unique or are early additions,” Barker said. “It is very rare to come across a collection like this.”
