Jazz ensemble kicks off week at MAC

The upcoming “Live and Free at the MAC” schedule has the Jazz Ensemble playing Monday, the Symphonic and Concert Bands on Tuesday and the Philharmonic Orchestra on Thursday. All three performances start at 8 p.m.

The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Jeremy Allen and Alex Noppe, will perform works by Michael Philip Mossman, Wayne Shorter, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter, to name a few.
The Symphonic and Concert Bands, directed by Paul Popiel and Jeffrey Gershman, respectively, will play a variety of pieces, including the world premiere of Kevin Walczyk’s “Concerto Gaucho” featuring faculty member Joey Tartell on trumpet.

The Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Kevin Noe, will play Witold Lutoslawski’s “Concerto for Orchestra,” Franz Liszt’s “Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major, S. 125” and Modest Mussorgsky’s well-known “Pictures at an Exhibition,” orchestrated by Joseph-Maurice Ravel.
