'Wanted' for the holidays

How many times do you think James McAvoy asked to do this scene over again?

Sweet action sequences, smoking hot actresses and surprises throughout the story all make for a killer movie. If you put all those traits together, you’ve got “Wanted.” The film brings rising star James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and the hottest actress on the planet Angelina Jolie all on board to create one hell of a ride.

The movie focuses on Wesley Gibson (McAvoy), who can’t handle his life anymore. He is constantly bored, his girlfriend cheats on him with his best friend and his boss loves to embarrass him. But out of the blue, gorgeous Fox (Angelina Jolie) confronts Wesley to tell him his assassin father was murdered and now he must take his place in the Fraternity, an assassin organization managed by Sloan (Freeman).

“Wanted” provides everything needed to make a great action movie. Jolie clearly drives the movie with her fully tattooed body and her intense action-sequence work. She shows she can play the action role better than most male actors. McAvoy proves to be a multidimensional actor, as his work here is on par with his performance in more dramatic fair like “Atonement.”

The one flaw in “Wanted” is that a few parts are either hard to understand or not explained enough. The whole curving of a bullet is a bit jarring, and it becomes more confusing when Jolie makes a bullet go in a full circle rather than just curving it. Then again, seeing Jolie naked from the back makes up for it.

The DVD is very typical. It has features discussing the main characters and who portrays them, the graphic novel series where “Wanted” originated, stunts and special effects features for you action buffs, etc.

“Wanted” features an actress you can’t take your eyes off and outstanding, high-adrenaline action sequences, but a somewhat confusing and unrealistic story. Nonetheless, it’s great entertainment, and there’s a home for the DVD under every Christmas tree.
