HPER introduces slam dunk contest

RecSports is introducing a slam dunk contest this year.

“We surveyed last spring semester, and the No. 1 response was a slam dunk contest,” said Assistant Director of Intramural Sports Satoshi Kido. “We have a no-dunk policy, and this will be a once-a-year opportunity for everyone who wants to try. This was something students wanted to do, so we are providing it.”

During the competition, participants will have 45 seconds to throw down two successful dunks and are encouraged to be as original as possible. The judges will base their scores on creativity, costume, dunk and presentation. It will take place 9 p.m. Feb. 18.

On the same day, RecSports is also presenting a three-point shootout. Students can sign up today for both events.

The shootout will be from 6 to 9 p.m., with the top eight male and top six female shooters advancing to the finals during halftime of the intramural basketball championship at Assembly Hall.

Friday is the last day students can sign up their intramural basketball teams.
