IU Philharmonic Orchestra to kick off semester concert series

The Philharmonic Orchestra, IU’s premiere orchestral ensemble, will kick off this semester’s concert series at 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the Musical
Arts Center.

The event will feature conductor David Effron and graduate student cellist Sylvain Rolland. Music will include Sergei Prokofiev’s “Sinfonia concertante” and Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No. 3 in F Major.” The concert is free and open to the public.

Professor David Effron has conducted major orchestras all over the world.  Before joining IU’s staff in 1998, Effron was a member of the New York City Opera conducting staff for 18 years. His many recordings include the Grammy award-winning recording of Aaron Copland’s “A Lincoln Portrait.”
