Coover soars to Big Ten honor
IU track and field pole vaulter Jeff Coover was named the Big Ten’s co-Field Athlete of the Week after clearing a career-best 5.37 meters this weekend at the Indiana Relays.
The clearance was fourth-best in program history.
“Jeff continues to improve each week,” IU coach Ron Helmer said in a statement Monday, “and the exciting thing for our coaching staff is he continues to put things in place that suggest he will continue to do so.”
Coover’s mark is the third-best in Division I this season and provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
Michigan’s Sean Pruitt shared the weekly honor.
