IU wins 68-50, will play Purdue Friday

IU forward Amber Jackson, left, and guard Jamie Braun, right, try to strip the ball away from Michigan's Stephany Skrba during the first round of the Big Ten Woman's Tournament on Thursday at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. IU trailed 28-26 at the half.

Nearly seven minutes into the first half, the Hoosiers still hadn’t scored.

Then freshman Lindsay Enterline connected on a 3-pointer, and with an increased effort on defense the Hoosiers (19-9) came back and beat Michigan 68-50 in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament Thursday in Indianapolis.

IU has now beaten Michigan three times on the season. The Hoosiers will play Purdue at 2 p.m. tomorrow. IU beat Purdue 71-57 in the pair’s only regular season game.

Having spotted Michigan (10-20) a 12-point lead, sophomore captain Jori Davis said she was not surprised at the deficit but rather the lack of intensity.

“It was more so shocked that we had to get our energy up,” Davis said. “It was just a matter of fixing it and coming back strong.”

Davis did come back strong, leading the Hoosiers with 22 points. But the turning point of the game came when IU decided to pick up their defensive intensity in the second half.

The Hoosiers held the Wolverines scoreless for 4:58 in the second half and used a 15-0 run to capture a six-point lead at 43-37.

This was the second meeting in five days between the two teams. IU beat Michigan 67-61 at home Monday after trailing by as many as 15 points in the second half.
