2 Hoosiers earn Big Ten recognition

Together, an Australian and an American have won almost 60 percent of their doubles matches since January. Separately, the young Hoosiers were named to Honors on Thursday evening.

Australian native and sophomore Lachlan Ferguson was named to the 2009 All Big Ten team.

Ferguson’s resume carries more than a 23-11 overall record during the 2008-09 season. Since January, Ferguson defeated five top-ranked opponents, with his biggest win against South Carolina’s then-No. 42 Diego Cubas.

Ferguson also teamed with Connecticut native Stephen Vogl to go 10-7 this season in doubles.

Vogl, named the 2009 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honoree for Indiana, went 10-11 in his singles this season. Yet in the last four months, Vogl has gone 13-8 in his dual doubles matches.

Vogl paired up with fellow freshman Will Kendall to play four of those matches, going 3-1.

Ferguson and Vogl helped the Hoosiers to a .500 regular season record. The Hoosiers are in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament after defeating Michigan State 4-1.
