Putting jokes and gimmicks aside, the 10 members of Straight No Chaser prepared for their annual spring concert 8 p.m. Friday at the IU Auditorium. The group will debut about 10 new songs in the 25-song set.
And for seniors Jason Jacobs, Drew Kipfer and musical director Shaun Kelley, this is their final concert. The group had lost seven members this year, and it caused the new members to step up.
New member and freshman Julian Morris will perform for the first time.
“I actually kind of auditioned on a whim. ... I was looking for an outlet for non-classical music,” he said. “I didn’t realize it was this huge thing that would completely ‘180’ my life.”
The group holds four practices a week and has countless performances throughout the semester and demands a lot of time and dedication from its members.
“This is a huge show for all of the new members,” said sophomore Brent Mann.
