Local band releases CD, notable acts

The pensive lyrics and melodic instrumentals of Bloomington’s local indie rock band Alexander The Great will serenade audience members when they, along with Mock Orange and La Santa Muerta, perform at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at The Bluebird.

Tuesday’s show will be the release of Alexander The Great’s recently completed studio album, “Faces Change,” from Crossroads of America Records.

Recorded locally at Russian Recording in Nashville, Ind., “Faces Change” features a variety of songs, from lyrically intensive dirges to an instrument-only track, “Cabin Fever.”

Travel imagery fills the lyrical content of the album, with song titles such as “Postcard,” “Mapmaking Outlines” and “Jetsetting Jets.”

The lead singer of the Bloomington-based band The Delicious, David J. Woodruff, designed the artwork for the album, ATG lead-singer Bryant Fox said.

“Faces Change” will be given to attendees who pay the $8 cover charge.

In addition to Alexander The Great and La Santa Muerta, the popular Mock Orange will perform.

Having performed in Europe, North America and Asia and building a substantial following in the process, Mock Orange has played alongside bands like Minus the Bear, NOFX, The Band Apart and Hey Mercedes.

Popular shows and television networks like ESPN, “CSI: Miami” and “Viva La Bam” have used Mock Orange’s music, according to a press release.

Yet, Alexander The Great’s headlining live performance remains the main draw of the night.

Sophomore Nik Spurgetis said an Alexander The Great performance feels like a bonding experience.

“The keys, percussion, bass, guitar and vocal harmonies all blend perfectly into a wall of sound that just washes over you and pulls you right in,” Spurgetis said. “Out of all the bands that I’ve seen in Bloomington, (Alexander The Great) has been the most captivating.”
