For years, this country cowboy has been pumping out album after album of catchy and unforgettable tunes and duets. But Willie Nelson’s newest compilation of songs from notable albums doesn’t fit together at all.
The album starts out with some classic hits including “Mendocino County Line” featuring Lee Ann Womack and leads into some interesting choices, including the Ryan Adams-produced “Back to Earth” and “Beer for My Horses” featuring Toby Keith.
The most interesting choices for the album are “Cowboys are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other” and “Ain’t Goin’ on Brokeback Mountain,” two gay-centric songs that light heartedly poke fun at feminine cowboys who sleep with women but want to be with men.
For Nelson these are eccentric choices for sure, but they close out the album with some unintentional comedic value.
For future efforts Nelson would be better staying on the same road he’s been driving since his earlier years, rather than to be lost on this new highway.
Willie’s lost his way
