Clint Needham, a doctoral fellow in composition at the Jacobs School of Music, received a 2009 American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Foundation Morton Gould Young Concert Music Composer Award.
The society gives this award each year to composers under the age of 30, and only 39 composers received the 2009 award.
Needham earned his bachelor’s degree at Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory and his master’s at IU. He will complete his doctorate in May 2010.
His award-winning piece “Chamber Symphony” premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2008 and was inspired by the media’s coverage of the presidential election.
Needham said in a press release that he is honored to receive the award and that the Jacobs School is a strong department, which attracts many talented composers.
