The No. 7 Hoosiers fell 2-1 Sunday to the No. 3 Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Bill Armstrong Stadium in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic’s final game.
Wake Forest, who jumped to an early lead in the 12th minute on a self-goal in front of the Hoosier net, took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
IU’s offense picked up out of the gate in the second half, though, when the Hoosiers produced 10 shots, including Eric Alexander’s ten-foot goal sixteen minutes into the second half to tie the match at 1-1.
For the second straight game, the Hoosier’s defense stood tough, offering Wake Forest little opportunity to score. Unfortunately for IU, a little opportunity is all it took for Wake forward Sean Randolph.
Wake Forest midfielder Austin da Luz fed Randolph after a Hoosier turnover midway through the second half. A quick service and header in front of IU freshman goalie Luis Soffner was all it took to put Wake ahead for good.
The loss puts IU at 0-1-1 to start the year. The Hoosiers go on the road next weekend to face New Mexico and Seattle in South Bend.
