Two Hoosiers earn honors for the week from Big Ten

Two IU players stepped up their game this weekend, and the Big Ten recognized their efforts on their sides of the pitch and field.

Sophomore midfielder Devon Beach of women’s soccer won Co-Offensive Player of the Week in the Big Ten Conference, and junior defender Mutsa Mutembwa of field hockey won Defensive Player of the Week.

Beach's honors are the first for a Hoosier on the offensive side since 2007.

Beach had a goal during the game against No. 6 Florida and a key assist to lead the Hoosiers to a 2-1 victory.

The Hoosiers currently have a 5-0 record.

This is the best start in IU women’s soccer history since 1994 and 2000.

On the other side, Mutembwa received Defensive Player of the Week due to her two big defensive saves against No.13 Louisville.

The Hoosiers' win over the Cardinals was the second win over a ranked opponent this season. The last one was Aug. 28 against No. 14 American University.

Last week, junior goalkeeper Alex Mann won the Defensive Player of the Week award for her efforts in the win against American.

IU field hockey starts off the season with a record of 3-1.
