Homecoming brings ‘Wacky, Wild, Crimson’ styles

Hoosier fans sported an eclectic array of “Wacky, Wild, Crimson Style” styles Friday and Saturday to promote homecoming spirit.

This year’s theme, designated by the IU Student Alumni Association, aimed to capture traditional passion with an edge, said junior Kristi LaFree, who is IUSAA vice president of marketing and an Indiana Daily Student columnist.

“We have a contest every year and let members share ideas for the homecoming theme,” LaFree said. “We picked ‘Wacky, Wild, Crimson Style’ to be different and allow for a lot of fun stuff.”

Planning for this year’s homecoming trends began last spring, LaFree said. In additional to new logos and IU apparel available this fall, IUSAA designed “spirit glasses,”
colorful shades emblazoned with “Homecoming” on one frame, distributed free of charge at the group’s events.

“A big thing about IU is school spirit,” LaFree said. “Getting involved reminds you why you love it here.”
