Rap artist Fabolous, scheduled to perform at the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity house Wednesday as a kick-off event for homecoming, canceled the show as a result of delayed flights and a family emergency, Jeff Safferman, president of Sigma Alpha Mu, said.
In an effort to provide a great show for the fans, members of the fraternity contacted another well known rapper, Twista, Safferman said. Because of poor traffic conditions, Twista would not have arrived until after the show was scheduled to end, he said, and was told to turn around.
Wiz Khalifa, planned to be the opening act, was asked to perform a longer set, Safferman said. Instead of performing for 20 minutes, Khalifa put on nearly an hour and a half long set.
Students were informed at the door of Fabolous’ absence, Safferman said.
At the end of the concert, Safferman said people were asked to give their names and e-mail addresses to be notified of a refund policy. However, he said in no way is the fraternity obligated to refund the tickets. The back of the tickets warned purchasers that no refunds would be offered, he said.
“This type of stuff happens in the music industry,” he said. “It was well worth it to put on a show for the fans.”
