BEAD looks for artwork proposals

Bloomington is in search of two public art projects for the City’s Entertainment and Arts District also known as BEAD.

One project is a part of Garage Culture, a series by BEAD that is scheduled to be in the three parking garages in town. The series works to promote parking garage usage and visibility as well as add art to the downtown landscape. Artwork for both the interior and exterior of the parking garage will reflect the art and culture of downtown.

The other project, is BEAD’s Pocket Art program which creates opportunities for local artists by allowing them to work in unexpected locations. Currently the program is looking for proposals to create a mural on a fence surrounding a recycling and refuse area behind the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.

Proposals must be turned by 5 p.m. Dec 4 to Miah Michaelsen, City Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts in the Economic and Sustainable Development Department at City Hall.

Anyone who is 18 or over and current Indiana residents can submit proposals. For more information visit: www.bloomington.in.gov/BEAD.
