Roth sidelined with foot injury

IU freshman guard Matt Roth walks to the bench late in the second half of IU's 75-53 loss to Northwestern on Wednesday evening at Assembly Hall. IU coach Tom Crean subbed in a line up of bench players after it became apparent that IU would not stage a comeback late in the game.

Sophomore guard Matt Roth injured his foot during practice Wednesday for the Hoosiers' first game in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-off, according to the IU athletics department.

Crean said to the media in San Juan, Puerto Rico Thursday that he believes Roth could face a lengthy recovery from the injury.

“I don’t feel good about it,” Crean said. “There’s no question about it, I don’t feel good about it. We’re going to take what we have now, go home and get some more done. I don’t think there’s any chance he’s going to play in this tournament. We’ll see, but I don’t feel good about that in the sense of anything in the near future.”

When asked about the possibility of surgery, Crean responded:

“We have one x-ray right now, but we’re going to get another one when we get home,” he said. “I think we want to be more clear, as to exactly what we’re dealing with back at home.”
