Through one half, IU played down to the level of a North Carolina Central team with a 2-8 record.
But then Maurice Creek took over.
Creek responded from his 31-point effort against Kentucky last Saturday to pace the Hoosiers (5-5) with 29 points in a 81-58 win against the Eagles. He scored 20 of those points in the second half.
For the first 20 minutes, the first-year Division I school North Carolina Central kept pace with the Hoosiers. While IU jumped out to an early 13-5 lead at the first media timeout, the Eagles responded to close the gap to 18-16 and took a 31-30 lead three minutes before halftime.
The second half was a different story.
Creek opened the half with a 3-pointer, and IU outscored the Eagles 27-12 over the next 10 minutes.
Christian Watford added 11 points and 4 rebounds, while Jeremiah Rivers contributed 8 assists to pace the Hoosiers.
The Eagles, who were playing without second-leading scorer Vincent Davis (out due to personal issues), were led by C.J. Wilkerson with 22 points.
