Students perform play by Visiting Visionary Scholar

The Department of Theatre and Drama will present “Farewell to a Cannibal Rage” 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wells-Metz Theatre.

Admission is free to see the play by Nigerian playwright Femi Osofisan, who is a Visiting Visionary Scholar and will direct the play as well.

Osofisan taught an eight-week class and now his students will perform the play. Each student has multiple roles within the play.

The play is a response to the 1970s Biafran-Nigerian war and tells the story of star-crossed lovers, inspired by “Romeo and Juliet.”

Osofisan said in a press release he believes the play shows that problems are universal and not determined by race.

IU is the 15th university in the U.S. Osofisan has taught at in the past 25 years.
