Cleveland Orchestra concert nixed, strike ongoing

Residency still in question

Due to ongoing contract negotiations, the Cleveland Orchestra cancelled its free chamber concert scheduled for Monday at Auer Hall, part of the planned orchestral visit.

The show, part of a four-day residency aimed towards teaching and working with Jacob School of Music students, has not been rescheduled.

This is the first of several activities, including master classes and an IU Auditorium show, planned for the residency that might be cancelled due to a musicians’ strike within the orchestra.

Doug Booher, director of the IU Auditorium, said contact between the school and orchestra remains constant so the residency can begin as soon as possible.

“They are in the process of some mediated negotiation today with some musicians,” Booher said. “We hope that they come to some agreement so that they can continue their residency and scheduled activities for the remainder of the week.”

The Cleveland Orchestra is still scheduled to perform Wednesday night at the auditorium. Tickets are still available, and in the event of a cancellation, Booher said ticket holders will be notified by e-mail.
