Comic Warren B. Hall returns to Funny Bone

Comedian Warren B. Hall is back home and returning to the Funny Bone Bloomington Comedy Club stage.

“I think seeing my show could be the cure for cancer,” Hall said.

Originally from Bloomington, Hall has been featured on Last Comic Standing, The Bob and Tom Show and Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen. However, being on Last Comic Standing has not really opened any doors, Hall said. Appearing on the show doesn’t help as much as people think.

Hall performed Thursday night at the Funny Bone and will be back tonight and Saturday with shows at 8 and 10:30 p.m. each day.

Funny Bone owner Jared Thompson said Hall makes the audience comfortable when he performs.

“It’s like you are sitting in Warren’s house hanging out listening to him talk,” he said.
Hall is widely known, Thompson said, and people generally don’t realize how prestigious performing on Comics Unleashed is.

Hall will be joined by comedian Michael Malone, while Brad Wilhelm will host today and Saturday’s shows. Thompson said Ben Moore hosted Thursday’s show.

This is the fifth time Hall has performed at the Funny Bone, Thompson said, and hopes Hall will once again be a hit.

“He has popular jokes people will recognize but always has new material when he comes,” he said.

Hall said he talks about things he has seen or things from his personal experiences when writing his material. He said there are many things he believes only happen to him but he finds out everyone does them like flipping off other drivers on the road.
When he writes new material, Hall said he never really looks for the joke – they just happen.

“Nine times out of ten something will happen or I will say something and people will laugh, then I’ll write it down,” he said.

Thompson said there are some comedians he books because he knows they will bring a great crowd and people will enjoy them.

“With Warren, you know you’re in for a funny show,” he said.
