Dickerson named preseason All-American

Sophomore baseball player Alex Dickerson was named Third Team Preseason All-American by Ping!Baseball on Monday. Dickerson led all Big Ten freshmen last season with 14 HR, an IU freshman record, and 57 RBI, one shy of the school mark.
He also finished eighth in the conference with a .370 batting average while hitting in the cleanup spot most of the year as a DH. Dickerson is expected to play left field this season.

Jones sticks with IU

Sophomore center and Marquette University-transfer Georgie Jones signed a scholarship agreement with the IU women’s basketball team Monday. Jones, who averages 3.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in her career, is currently attending IU and will be eligible to play in January 2011.

IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack, whose team is last in the Big Ten in defensive rebounding, said in her statement that Jones “can rebound with the best in the country.”

Drouin, Sherrill garner awards

Junior Faith Sherrill and sophomore Derek Drouin of the IU track and field team were both named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week by the conference Monday. Drouin had a career-best Saturday at the Indiana Open in the high and long jump, while Sherrill broke a school record in shot put.
