BAAC to expand board membership

The Bloomington Area Arts Council Board voted unanimously Tuesday to expand the governing board by recruiting locally.

The current board will call on different groups in Bloomington, including IU, to recommend individuals who can serve on the board. No set date was announced for when the expansion would be finalized.

The organization still needs $120,000  by March 1 to keep the John Waldron Arts Center open.

In January, the BAAC released a seven-page press release outlining what has been ineffective for the organization and what steps should be taken to keep the Waldron open.

Ashley Fisher and Rob Hanrahan, president and executive director of the council, respectively, were elected to the board last year and are working towards a long-term sustainability plan.

New membership, they said, will help make that plan possible.
